MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (Aug. 28, 2012) – Trees for Tomorrow – A Lowcountry Legacy is looking for homes for approximately 2,400 trees the organization will have available this fall.

The trees will come from two sources and in two installments, with one allocated for public properties and the other for private.

Approximately 400 trees have been requested from the state anti-litter and beautification organization PalmettoPride, as part of a tree grant program. These trees range from four to six feet in height and include crepe myrtles, Japanese and red maples, redbuds, river birches and willow oaks. They are available, free of charge, for public properties (schools, libraries, fire stations, parks, churches, etc.) within a 10-mile radius of Murrells Inlet. Trees for Tomorrow volunteers will photograph the sites, plant the trees and help establish a maintenance program.

An additional 2,000 young (one- to two-year-old) trees have been ordered from the S.C. Forestry Commission and will be available for local residents. These include 500 each of live oaks, redbuds, eastern cedars and dogwoods. The purchase of these trees was funded by Total Tree Care and Murrells Inlet Seafood, corporate partners of Trees for Tomorrow – A Lowcountry Legacy. These trees will be available to private landowners, also free of charge.
